Patrick Bonato lives and works in Innsbruck and is a freelance illustrator, graphic designer, and author of graphic novels. His work focuses on narrative drawing, and he continues to explore the spectrum between illustration, design, and fine art. To date, Patrick Bonato has published two graphic novels in book form: “Das bunte Buch verhaltensgestörter Tiere” (Luftschacht, Vienna, 2012) and “Toubab im Senegal” (Luftschacht, 2021, and Presque Lune, Rennes, France, 2024).
Patrick Bonato studied graphic design at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and illustration fiction at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. He has served as an artist-in-residence in France, Senegal, the U.S., Mexico, and Italy. Bonato’s work has received numerous awards, including first prize in the Kunst am Bau Neue Heimat Tirol competition (2025), the State Prize for Austria’s Most Beautiful Books (2022), and the region of Tyrol’s Contemporary Art Promotion Prize (2019).
